This is the home of Oracle's Linux Projects development group. We host a number of Open Source projects here - including source and binary downloads, sample code, mailing lists, documentation, and an issue tracker. Some notable filesystems are NTFS on Windows, HFS+ on Mac OS X, EXT on Linux, and finally, Btrfs, also on Linux. The EXT filesystems have been the longtime de facto for Linux systems.
Shujian Yang has written a tool called btrForensics, which can be used for performing Btrfs forensic analysis. Currently the tool has the following capability:
- Browse nodes derived from root tree and print information.
- Browse nodes in filesystem tree and print information.
- List all files in default filesystem tree.
- Explore files and subdirectories in default root directory.
- Switch to a subvolume or snapshot and explore files within.
- Read a file from image and save to current directory.
Check Shujian's GitHub to learn more about the tool.
I have two pieces of hardware that are running different Linux systems, a Drobo 5D running EXT4 and a Netgear ReadyNAS running BTRFS. Both pieces of hardware and their OSs provide a way to back-up the contents of the device onto an external HDD but those drives have to be formatted in the same Linux file systems. Is fruity loops compatible with mac.
In the event of a hardware failure, I would like to be able to recover the data on either the internal HDD or the external drives without being forced to purchase the same piece of hardware again (i.e. another Drobo or a ReadyNAS).
If I connect the internal drive or the external drive to my Mac (running OS X El Capitan) today, I get the message that the disk is not recognized and do I want to initialize the disk, which of course, erases everything on the disk.
Does anyone know of a way I can read the data on these drives using my Mac? Is there some application I can install on the Mac that will allow these drives to be read?
Thanks,
